The story of THYRA has humble beginnings in a RideLondon Cycling event, where I swallowed a fly and nearly came off my bike. After that ride I spent a lot of time thinking about what a perfect sports mask should be, namely exceptionally breathable, and comfortable. I couldn’t find one that I would wear, so I started thinking about how I would design one. Through the last years life has kept me busy with other priorities, however I feel that I have something to contribute in the current situation.

So, I revisited my initial ideas and set out to complete the design of my ideal face mask. It had to offer maximum protection through very high filtration, while maintaining comfort and breathability. After many late-night sewing sessions on the dining room table, THYRA was born.

I strongly believe that we need to live sustainably. We have found a fantastic material for our masks which is made from recycled plastics, including discarded fishing nets. The packaging is made from biodegradable plastic and recycled cartons. And we are proud to partner with a fantastic local factory in the UK.

The end product is the ideal mask for everyday use, for everyone.

Behind every design and production step we have taken is a commitment to providing wearers the highest quality filtration and breathability, and peace of mind. THYRA offers this reassurance through materials that filter out over 95% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, including most toxins. The mask material is soft and stretchy, making it comfortable and a great fit on a wide range of face shapes and sizes. My 5-year-old can wear the mask as well. I can do my regular hour-long jog wearing the mask without a problem. And because details matter, the thick and flexible straps are designed to protect even the most delicate ears from extended use.
